3. Dublin Wayfinding Scheme -
Appendix 2
An Approach to Wayfinding
and Information
To successfully deliver a wayfinding strategy for Dublin,
visitor management, pedestrian movement patterns,
public transport and ongoing urban realm initiatives must
be understood.
The development of a wayfinding strategy for any city
is a complex, scientifically based challenge. In order
to best meet Dublin’s needs in this area, the proposer
commissioned a leading design and manufacturing firm
St Stephens Green
that specialises in wayfinding development, to help us Proposed Combination Panel Location

6. Heritage Trail -
Appendix 3
Concept
The concept of a Heritage Trail is simple. It
should provide information for visitors to the
city, encourage movement between locations
and most importantly, contribute to the civic
identity of our capital city.
The bidder will supply and maintain a network
of Heritage Trail plaques across Dublin
City, which will provide themed connectivity
between destinations identified in the Legible
Dublin report.
Design
We propose two designs for Dublin City

Council to choose from. Each plaque is Szekely Design Starck Design
uniform in appearance and is designed to
complement the diverse range of potential
locations, spanning from Temple Bar to
Christchurch.
The first option is the Martin Szekely Heritage
plaque. The slim silhouette and graceful
arch features link the city of today to its
cultural past. The arch symbolises the bridge,
celebrating the heritage of the River Liffey
and the identity it has created for Dublin.
The second design is the Philippe Starck
Heritage plaque. The textured finish of
the piece and the oar design is also
representative of our ties with the water. In
this instance, Philippe has recreated the
movement of the waves as a symbol of our
maritime heritage. St Stephens Green

7. Automatic Public
Conveniences -
Appendix 4
The Offer
The proposer currently holds contracts with 81 Irish local authorities
for the supply and maintenance of APC’s. The supply and
maintenance of a number of units has been included as part of the
proposal to Dublin City Council. The featured unit caters for both able
bodied and disabled (wheelchair) users. The entry door opens and
closes automatically at the touch of a button. Signage for opening
and closing is clearly labelled and is also marked in Braille for visually
impaired users. Audible information can also be provided via a Braille
coded special button.
Baby changing facilities also make this APC a family friendly option.
Exterior Features Hydra Design
Automatic Public Convenience
Two illuminated poster panels form part of the exterior structure,
serving the dual purpose of providing lighting in the hours of darkness
and also as an information point for the public in the form of a map or
Dublin City Council promotional campaign.
Functionality and ease of use are combined with the following features:
Automated water and soap dispensing
Automated warm air hand drying
Automated air induction
Occupancy & overstay detection systems
Audio instructions
GSM automated fault reporting system
Audio & visual pre-warning alarm/flashing light prior to overstay
Coat/bag hooks
Perspex mirror
Heating and lighting (variable according to occupancy)
Natural ventilation
Baby changing facility
Concrete lacquered walls to resist vandalism and graffiti
Ribbed effect anti-slip flooring
After each use, the toilet floor is sprayed clean with high pressure
water jets, while the toilet bowl retracts into a wall compartment where
it is sprayed clean, disinfected and air-dried. The bowl washing and
floor cleaning functions are fully automated using a design which was
created by the proposer and is patented. The design uses very few
moving parts, which reduces the likelihood of mechanical failure and
is totally efficient.
8. Civic Communication
Network - Appendix 5
Dublin City Council are aware that an opportunity exists
to improve the level at which it communicates to residents
and vistors alike. Display panels, which will be used for
advertising, will also be permanently available to the city as
a Civic Communication Network. To complete the offer, the
proposer will offer a comprehensive poster design service
and cover the cost of printing and posting these displays
across the duration of the contract.
